It appears that Luis Suárez will not be in Uruguay's starting lineup on Saturday when La Celeste begin the World Cup group stages against Costa Rica in Fortaleza.

It appears the EPL’s golden boot winner will not start in Uruguay’s World Cup opener.

— Ben Lyttleton (@benlyt) June 13, 2014 While it’s a blow for Uruguay, and for fans hoping to see one of the world’s best attacking players, the decision doesn’t come as a major surprise.
Suarez underwent surgery on his left knee meniscus in early May, so his status going into the tournament was always in doubt. Obviously, he was well enough to make the final 23-man roster, but it appears that head coach Óscar Tabárez is going to be cautious with his star striker.
Fortunately, Uruguay have a guy named Edinson Cavani on their roster, and Diego Forlan still has something to offer as well. Even without Suaárez, there's every reason to believe that Uruguay will have plenty of attacking power to deploy against the Ticos.
