West Bromwich Albion hires Alan Irvine as new head coach
The Baggies have turned to Everton’s Academy manager, and former David Moyes assistant, Alan Irvine to replace Pepe Mel.

Albion Technical Director Terry Burton expressed his pleasure with the signing in an interview with the Baggies’ website.
“I’m delighted we have been able to secure the services of Alan and Rob. With the support of Keith and Dean, we firmly believe we have put in place the right coaching team to move the club forward.”
“From the outset, we decided to pursue candidates who are renowned for their coaching ability and Alan was very much at the forefront of our thoughts because of his achievements in the Premier League and the high regard he is held within the game.”
Irvine has twice served as a head coach, first with Preston North End from 2007-09 and then with Sheffield Wednesday in 2010/11. He played for five clubs during his career, including Everton, Crystal Palace and Blackburn.
The club confirmed they have agreed to a 12-month, rolling contract with Irvine. He will bring Rob Kelly along with him, to serve as a joint assistant head coach with Keith Downing. Goalkeeping coach Dean Kiely will remain in his position.
