Switzerland and Ecuador begin their World Cup on Sunday with the Swiss looking to prove that their No. 6 spot in the FIFA World Rankings is not a fluke.
Switzerland vs. Ecuador, World Cup 2014: Time, TV schedule and more
The Swiss face Ecuador in their Group E opener. Here’s how to watch on TV and online.

While some may be dubious about the Swiss, they’ve only been beaten once in their past 18 matches. Nonetheless, anything less than a spot in the Round of 16 would be a big disappointment. Xherdan Shaqiri and Josep Drmic are a talented attacking duo, while Gokhan Inler and Valon Behrami will provide midfield stability.
Ecuador believe they can escape Group E as well, but their hopes took a blow before the tournament even started when veteran midfielder Segundo Castillo was knocked out with a knee injury. Antonio Valencia is the team’s biggest name, with the Manchester United player looking to rebound from a quiet club season.
Considering that neither side is particularly explosive on the attack, it makes sense to expect a tight, defensive match in the Brazilian capital.
