It might seem off to call Ghana and the United States rivals, but considering that the Black Stars have been the team that eliminated the U.S. from the last two World Cups, it's definitely a rivalry. Now, for the third straight tournament, these two sides meet, this time in a group stage opener.
The United States are fresh off three straight pre-World Cup friendly victories, and full of a desire to finally find a way to defeat Ghana. With two potentially tougher games ahead, Jürgen Klinsmann has made sure to point out the importance of this match, and getting off to a good start. Timothy Chandler is the USA's only injury doubt after he injured his leg in training last week.
Ghanaian striker Majeed Waris was injured in the Black Stars' final friendly against South Korea, and while he's returned to training, his chances of playing on Monday are still very much up in the air.
