2014 World Cup matches and TV schedule: USA vs. Ghana headlines Day 5

Can you believe that the World Cup is already into its fifth day? As usually happens, once the games starting being played, time starts zipping by with reckless abandon. Monday is a big day in Group E, with two important matches, including the opener for the United States.

Germany and Portugal get the day's schedule underway as the two sides many have picked to advance from Group E face off in Salvador. Germany's roster has been riddled by injuries, but they remain a dangerous and talented side. Assuming that Cristiano Ronaldo's knee behaves, the Portuguese should give the Germans a solid test. If one team can grab three points, they'll have a leg up on moving into the Round of 16.

Monday's second game between Iran and Nigeria probably won't get many people excited, and rightfully so. Iran are expected to just try and defend like crazy, hoping to pull off a miracle against a Nigeria side that didn't look great in pre-World Cup friendlies. Unless you're trying to watch every single match, maybe this is a good time for a nap or a trip to the grocery.

In the day's final game, the United States finally begin their World Cup campaign with a rematch against Ghana. This is the third straight World Cup in which the two sides will play, and the second time they've met int the group stages. US fans will no doubt remember 2006 when Ghana defeated the US in the final group stage match to knock the Americans out. They'll probably remember 2010 when Ghana defeated the US in the Round of 16. It's a chance for some revenge, to say the least.
