Australia vs. Netherlands, World Cup 2014: Time, TV schedule, preview and more

The Dutch are all smiles after a big opening win over Spain. Next up, the Socceroos. Here’s how you can watch on TV or online.

The Netherlands can all but put themselves into the Round of 16 with a victory over Australia on Wednesday in Porto Alegre. A win by the Dutch, combined with a draw between Spain and Chile, would guarantee the Netherlands advance, along with claiming the top spot in Group B.

It's hard to come up with a scenario in which things could have gone better for the Netherlands in their 5-1 win over Spain. The Dutch dismantled the defending champions in fantastic style, and sent a loud message to the other 31 teams in Brazil on their intent. Head coach Louis van Gaal has hinted he might switch back to a 4-3-3 for the game against the Socceroos.

Australia played extremely well against Chile, despite taking a 3-1 loss in the match. They defended well and put themselves in a position to steal a point. Considering they were written off before the tournament even began, it was a definite reminder that they are not to be overlooked. Unfortunately for the Socceroos, there was some bad news coming out of the first match, as fullback Ivan Franjic was ruled out of the tournament with a torn hamstring.
