The transfer has seemed in the offing for a while, so the announcement doesn’t come as a great surprise. He’s not yet a Chelsea player, though ironing out any outstanding contractual issues shouldn’t take too long. Expect the deal to be completed in the very near future.
There's no doubt that Costa's signing will be a great help to Chelsea, who've been lacking in a genuinely top class striker for a while. With Fernando Torres unable to recapture the form he showed at Liverpool and Demba Ba seemingly not good enough for an elite club, the Spaniard will add much-needed firepower to José Mourinho's attack.
