AC Milan decided to unveil four new players at once on Friday, with CEO Adriano Galliani introducing Alex and Jeremy Menez from Paris Saint-Germain, as well as the loan return and promotion of young defender Michelangelo Albertazzi and the acquisition of likely new No. 2 goalkeeper Michael Agazzi from Chievo Verona.

“Alex is a very important player, with an important career behind him,” said Galliani, who made a point of explaining that they’ve been trying to acquire him for most of his career. “We’ve been following him for many years and spotted him when he was at PSV. We tried to buy him before he joined Chelsea. We kept track of him and we’ve been able to bring him to the club and beat off the competition from others.”

Milan's center of defense has been shaky for quite some time, and the addition of Alex -- along with the likely signing of Adil Rami, who was on loan with the rossoneri last season -- should transform the position from a question mark to one of the squad's strongest spots.

The same goes for the wide positions, which will be greatly improved. Milan had to use makeshift options in those spots last season, but Menez should be part of a huge makeover there as well.

“[Menez is] a player of great talent and skill, who has to do more than what he has done up until now,” said Galliani. “He’s an absolute talent. We’ve been tracking him for a long time. We’re certain that we have added an important piece to our attack.”

In addition to Menez, Milan have M’Baye Niang back from a successful loan spell at Montpellier, while Stephan El Shaarawy should be fully fit by the time the new season starts. New manager Filippo Inzaghi is a completely unknown quantity, but Milan appear to be righting the ship from a player personnel standpoint.
