Newcastle United have completed the signing of Montpellier's French playmaker Rémy Cabella. The 24-year-old signed a six-year deal at St James' Park after the French club accepted an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of £12 million.
Newcastle complete signing of Rémy Cabella from Montpellier
The Frenchman has signed a six-year deal at St James’ Park.

Quoted on the club’s official website, Cabella said:
“This is a move that I really wanted to make, as I have heard nothing but good things about Newcastle United from everyone I spoke to. I wanted to join a great English club and that is why I have arrived here. I’m looking forward to pulling on the shirt and playing in this magnificent stadium, and I will give this club my maximum.”
The attacking midfielder made 37 league appearances for Montpellier last season and chipped in with 14 league goals, and was part of the side that stunned French football with their Ligue 1 win back in 2012. He was part of Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad after Clement Grenier withdrew from injury, though he didn’t make an appearance in Brazil.
The signing is a continuation of manager Alan Pardew's policy of signing players from France, though he's the first player to arrive in Newcastle from Ligue 1 this window. Cabella is the Magpies' fourth summer signing, after Siem de Jong, Jack Colback and Ayoze Pérez.
