France take on Germany in the first World Cup quarterfinal, and both coaches have made changes to their starting lineups.

Didier Deschamps has elected to start Antoine Griezmann on the left flank over the ineffectual striker Olivier Giroud, while Mamadou Sakho is back alongside Raphaël Varane in the centre of defence.

Germany boss Joachim Löw appears to have seen sense in starting Philipp Lahm at right-back, with Per Mertesacker dropped. Mario Götze is also left out, allowing Miroslav Klose to come in as a proper centre-forward up top. Sami Khedira is given the nod in the holding midfield role, while the injured defender Shkodran Mustafi is left out completely.

France starting lineup (4-3-3): Hugo Lloris; Patrice Evra, Mamadou Sakho, Raphaël Varane, Mathieu Debuchy; Blaise Matuidi, Yohan Cabaye, Paul Pogba; Antoine Griezmann, Karim Benzema, Mathieu Valbuena.

Germany starting lineup (4-3-3): Manuel Neuer; Benedikt Höwedes, Mats Hummels, Jerome Boateng, Philipp Lahm; Bastian Schweinsteiger, Sami Khedira, Toni Kroos; Mesut Özil, Miroslav Klose, Thomas Müller.
