Argentina have already lost one of their biggest stars in Sergio Aguero for the rest of the World Cup, and they'll be hoping their latest injury isn't quite as serious. Angel Di Maria has been forced out of their quarterfinal against Belgium with an injury, with Enzo Perez replacing him in the 34th minute.
Angel Di Maria injured, substituted early for Argentina
Di Maria picked up a knock earlier in the match, but attempted to play on. About 10 minutes after suffering his original injury, Di Maria went down again, and it became clear he couldn’t continue. It’s not clear what he injured, but the physio staff tried to stretcher him off and he refused, instead deciding to walk off the pitch and sit down on the bench. That’ll have fans hopeful that he’s not done for the remainder of the tournament.
While his replacement, Perez, is a clear class below, he’s also a decent player and a like-for-like switch. Perez started his career as an attacking winger and has been converted to a box-to-box midfielder at Benfica.
