Miroslav Klose sets new World Cup goalscoring record
Miroslav Klose’s goal against Brazil has ensured his place in the history books.
Miroslav Klose has become the all-time World Cup record goalscorer by netting in the first half of Germany's World Cup semifinal with tournament hosts Brazil.
Heading into the game he was tied with Brazilian legend Ronaldo, though his 16th World Cup finals goal has seen him move ahead.
Today's goal is Klose's second goal of the 2014 World Cup, with the first coming in Die Mannschaft's 2-2 group stage draw with Ghana. That first goal ensured he leapfrogged his legendary compatriot Gerd Müller, who racked up 14 in 13 World Cup matches. Müller is now third in the all-time World Cup goalscoring list.
It's a remarkable achievement for the Polish-born Klose, who made his World Cup debut over a decade ago as Germany made a run to the final in Japan, only to be beaten by Brazil. At 36 years old, and with Germany currently cruising in Belo Horizonte, it's certainly Klose who'll have the last laugh.
