Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich both get a chance to strike the first blow against each other and set the tone for the new season on Wednesday, but neither is playing their strongest possible team. A number of the German stars on each side are still not quite fit after the World Cup, or in the case of Marco Reus, a serious pre-World Cup injury.
Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund: Lineups

Dortmund have given starts to two of their big new signings, Matthias Ginter and Ciro Immobile. Most of their World Cup stars are not quite ready to start. The same goes for Bayern, though some of the members of the Germany squad have been re-introduced. They’re still a bit short on actual defenders, though, so their likely 3-4-3 is made up of a lot of players who are playing out of position.
Bayern Munich (3-4-3): Manuel Neuer; David Alaba, Javi Martinez, Jerome Boateng; Juan Bernat, Gianluca Guadino, Sebastian Rode, Pierre Hojbjerg; Xherdan Shaqiri, Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Müller
Borussia Dortmund (4-2-3-1): Mitchell Langerak; Marcel Schmelzer, Matthias Ginter, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Lukasz Piszczek; Sebastian Kehl, Oliver Kirch; Jonas Hofmann, Henrikh Mkhitaryan; Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang; Ciro Immobile
