Antonio Conte is the new coach of the Italian national team. The Azzurri had been looking to fill the vacancy since the resignation of Cesare Prandelli after their disappointing group stage exit at the World Cup in Brazil, and in the 45-year-old former Juventus coach, they've probably hired the best man available.

Conte heads into the role on the back of three enormously successful seasons with Juventus. He was an instrumental part of their transformation from mid-table mediocrity to a domestic powerhouse, sweeping up three league titles in as many seasons. His CV is more impressive than that of Alberto Zaccheroni, Francesco Guidolin and Roberto Mancini, who were all linked with the post.
However, it remains to be seen how he’ll adapt to challenges faced by international managers. He rarely deviated from his highly successful 3-5-2 in charge of Juventus, at times to his detriment. Under Conte, Juve failed to ever impress in the Champions League. With the national team, he may well have to be a little more flexible to achieve success.
