Southampton aren't waiting to spend the money they've pulled in from high profile sales this summer, and continue to strengthen their squad. Their latest signing is central defender Florin Gardos, whose acquisition was announced by the club on Thursday.

Gardos should be a direct replacement for the departed Dejan Lovren, who was sold to Liverpool for £20m earlier in the transfer window. Central defense was a relatively thin position for Southampton last season even with Lovren in the team, so Gardos was a much-needed acquisition.
Last season, Gardos was first choice for Steaua Bucharest in Romania and has broken into the Romanian national team as a result of his performances there. He previously played second fiddle to Vlad Chiriches at Steaua, but after Chiriches moved to Tottenham Hotspur, Gardos stepped out of his shadow. Apparently, he only needed one season as a first choice player to prove that he deserved a move to the Premier League.
