Zlatan Ibrahimovic has left oblique muscle tear

The PSG forward suffered a parietal tear in his left oblique muscle on Saturday, but no timetable has been set for his return.

Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been diagnosed with a partial tear of the left oblique muscle of the 12th rib, according to a report on the club’s website.

No time frame for how long Zlatan will be sidelined has been set, with the club only saying that further evaluation by the medical staff over the coming days will allow them to determine how long the Swedish striker will be out.

Ibrahimovic suffered the injury on Saturday against Bastia when he tried to make a turn away from a defender. He pulled immediately and grabbed his left side in obvious pain. After attempting to play through the pain for a couple minutes, Ibrahimovic called for a sub and was replaced by Ezequiel Lavezzi.

The severity of the injury and how much time the medical staff eventually rules him Zlatan out for, could affect PSG’s rumored plans to sell froward Edinson Cavani. If Ibrahimovic is forced to miss a significant time, they could decide to hold on to the Uruguayan for the time being.
