Tottenham Hotspur vs. Queens Park Rangers: Preview and TV schedule

Tottenham Hotspur will look to continue their perfect start to the season on Sunday by inflicting a second consecutive defeat on QPR.

Harry Redknapp returns to the club he once led to the Champions League on Sunday, as Tottenham Hotspur take on his Queens Park Rangers side at White Hart Lane. Mauricio Pochettino got his Spurs career off to a perfect start with a narrow win over West Ham last weekend, while QPR marked their return to the Premier League with a disappointing defeat to Hull City.

Key player - Erik Lamela (Tottenham Hotspur)

Spurs’ capture of Roma winger Erik Lamela looked like one of the signings of the season last summer. The Argentine arrived having destroyed Serie A defences at will, and he was unquestionably a world class talent. Alas, his Premier League performances so far haven’t continued on the same trajectory. He struggled in his first season at White Hart Lane, with poor form and a string of injury problems restricting his appearances. Hopefully he can find his best once again this season.

Key matchup - Christian Eriksen vs. Joey Barton

Spurs’ best player is probably Christian Eriksen, who, unlike Lamela, has thrived since moving to the Premier League. His creative abilities have seen him carve out plenty of opportunities both through the middle and out wide, helping him to become one of the division’s most valuable assets. If QPR want to restrict Spurs’ chances, they’ll have to be sure to keep him quiet -- a role that will likely be assumed by their aggressive holding midfielder Joey Barton.

Tottenham Hotspur injuries and suspensions

Out: Kyle Walker (pelvis), Kyle Naughton (suspended). In doubt: Vlad Chiricheș (back), Jan Vertonghen, Paulinho, Mousa Dembélé, Nacer Chadli (fitness).

Queens Park Rangers injuries and suspensions

Out: None. In doubt: Eduardo Vargas (visa).

Spurs have some concerns at right-back, with Kyles Walker and Naughton both unavailable. However, they could well have their World Cup players Jan Vertonghen, Paulinho, Mousa Dembélé and Nacer Chadli back again. Vlad Chiricheș is still doubtful. QPR’s only concern surrounds new striker Edu Vargas, who may not have the required paperwork completed in time for this match.
