Capital One Cup scores: QPR, Aston Villa and Leeds all upset

There were three big upsets in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday.

Ben Hoskins

It's seemingly not just Manchester United who've given up on the Capital One Cup altogether, with three big upsets in the competition in Wednesday's five fixtures.

Premier League side Queens Park Rangers were beaten away at fourth-tier side Burton Albion courtesy of a late goal from Adam McGurk, whose former club Aston Villa were themselves being humiliated at home by a lower league side. League One's Leyton Orient scored an 87th minute winner at Villa Park to progress into the next round.

Elsewhere, Leeds United were upset 2-1 by their near neighbours Bradford City, as the pressure continues to mount on their manager Dave Hockaday.

The two games without upsets were Stoke City's 3-0 win over Portsmouth, and Sunderland's demolition of Birmingham City by the same scoreline.

Full results

Burton Albion 1-0 Queens Park Rangers

Stoke City 3-0 Portsmouth

Birmingham City 0-3 Sunderland

Bradford City 2-1 Leeds United

Aston Villa 0-1 Leyton Orient
