Tottenham Hotspur have made a final bid to sign Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez, according to the Independent. Spurs have reportedly offered the Saints an incredible £14 million plus winger Andros Townsend in a part-exchange deal.
Tottenham Hotspur to make massive part-exchange bid for Jay Rodriguez
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly prepared to part with Andros Townsend and £14 million in order to land Jay Rodriguez.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino coached Rodriguez at Southampton last season, and apparently wants to bring him in now in the belief that Spurs will face greater competition for his signature in January. The striker is currently recovering from a serious knee injury sustained in a Premier League game against Manchester City last April.
Rodriguez is certainly a very capable striker, and at only 25 he’s still got plenty of time left at the top level. That he’s English also adds a few million to his price tag, due to homegrown restrictions. However, this Spurs bid is truly astronomical, with Townsend himself valued at over £10m.
If the Independent have their facts right, it would presumably be very difficult for Southampton manager Ronald Koeman to turn down.
