Nathaniel Chalobah moves from Chelsea to Burnley on loan

One of Chelsea’s best youth products is taking a step up.

Srdjan Stevanovic

Nathaniel Chalobah has spent the last two seasons in the Championship, but he's apparently ready to take a step up. The Chelsea youngster will spend this season on loan at Burnley, as the latter club confirmed on Monday.

Chalobah was an absolute star in his first loan spell, helping Watford to the Championship promotion playoffs while starting most of the club’s games. He was less successful last season in loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough, but was still very clearly an above-average Championship midfielder at just 19 years old.

Burnley are a bit thin in the center of midfield, so Chalobah should get plenty of playing time there this season. He’s also a perfect fit for their system -- they play on the counter, but are decent at keeping the ball on the ground. They needed someone energetic and athletic who’s also decent on the ball, and Chalobah fits the bill.

As for Chelsea, they’ll be hoping this is the year when Chalobah makes a huge leap in his career, and that he’ll come back ready to lock down a first-team place next summer.
