Radamel Falcao loan to cost Manchester United a staggering £24m

That is a lot of money for a one-year loan.

Manchester United didn't want to throw down what it was going to cost to sign Radamel Falcao permanently, but they are going to spend a lot of money on him. According to the Telegraph, United will pay all of his wages, which amount to £346k per week. They'll also pay Monaco a loan fee of £6m, meaning the entire cost of loaning Falcao will be £24m.

It’s a lot of money, but certainly a lot less than they would have paid to buy him outright. Monaco probably would have wanted their money back, while Falcao would have wanted a new long-term contract on the same wages to sign for United. That would have required a financial commitment of somewhere in the neighborhood of £100m, if not more.

Still, £24m is an absolutely unbelievable amount of money to spend on a one-year loan. It would be stunning to see just about any team do that without an agreement to buy a player outright for a reasonable price, but nothing is shocking from United anymore. Their transfer business is incomprehensible.
