Arsenal sign Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck

The Gunners added the 23-year-old striker on Monday.

Danny Welbeck has signed with Arsenal, officially signing after the transfer window closed on Monday. The striker joins the Gunners from Manchester United on a deal believed to be worth £16 million. Welbeck had been rumored to be on his way out of United for most of the summer, and there'd been rumors that connected him with Tottenham and Everton.

With Olivier Giroud set to miss several months after undergoing surgery on his leg, Arsene Wenger was in the market for another striker to help bolster his roster. Whether or not Welbeck can fill Giroud’s shoes remains to be seen, but he should work better playing as a center forward than Alexis Sanchez, who is more of a winger.

The 23-year-old has spent his entire career, both youth and professional, at Manchester United, having signed with the club back in 2001. He debuted in the first team on Sept. 23, 2008 in a League Cup match against Middlesbrough, and ended up with more than 90 league appearances and 20 goals for the Red Devils. He also spent a season on-loan with Sunderland in 2010/11.
