Manchester United did what they were supposed to do against Queens Park Rangers last week as they hammered the newly promoted side 4-0. This week they face another of the three promoted teams as they travel to play Leicester City. The Foxes have gotten off to a decent start to the season, and feature a side whose tempo and wide play should give United a much better test than provided by QPR.
Leicester City vs. Manchester United live stream: How to watch the EPL online, TV schedule and more
After a big win last weekend, United are out to prove they’ve turned the corner after a slow start to the season.
Key Player: Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester City)
You get the sense that Manchester United figured some things out during last week's thrashing of Queen Park Rangers. Ángel di María settled in and had a superb match and there's a good chance Radamel Falcao will get his first start, which only makes the United attack more formidable. Thus, Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel will probably be busy on Sunday and there's a good chance he'll need to have a big game to help give his team a chance.
Key Matchup: Leicester’s wing players vs. United’s defense
QPR are not a very good team and while United’s win was impressive, it wasn’t a major challenge in the big scheme of things. Leicester are a team the Red Devils should beat (no offense intended to fans of the Foxes) but they’ll certainly give United a better test. The Foxes like to play a high tempo game and their speed on the outside should give the United defense some problems. If Van Gaal’s defense can deal with that speed, they should be fine. If they can’t slow down the Leicester attack, this match could see several goals.
Leicester City injuries and suspensions
Out: Matthew Upson (ankle), Nick Powell (ineligible). In Doubt: Kasper Schmeichel (knee), Matty James (shin).
Manchester United injuries and suspensions
Out: Michael Carrick (ankle), Sam Johnstone (elbow), Phil Jones (hamstring), Marouane Fellaini (ankle), Jesse Lingard (knee), Ashley Young (groin).
Both Schmeichel and James are expected to play after overcoming minor injuries, but Matthew Upson remains sidelined with an ankle injury. Nick Powell, who is on-loan from United, is not eligible to play in a match against his parent club. United are slowly getting healthier, but the injury list still remains long. Chris Smalling is finally back and available, with Phil Jones the only remaining injured defender for Van Gaal.
