Capital One Cup, 3rd round schedule and fixtures: Arsenal face Southampton in the marquee match

England’s midweek action comes courtesy of the Capital One Cup.

Michael Regan

The Capital One Cup resumes in midweek, with third round games strung across Tuesday and Wednesday.

There are still plenty of big Premier League sides in action, with Arsenal hosting Southampton in an intriguing fixture at the Emirates, Liverpool welcoming in-form second-tier club Middlesbrough to Anfield, as well as a couple of all top-flight clashes on Tuesday. Meanwhile, MK Dons will be looking to pick up where they left off with their stunning 4-0 win over Manchester United in the last round. They host fellow third-tier outfit Bradford City.

On Wednesday, Chelsea should have more than enough to see off the threat of Bolton Wanderers, while Manchester City are hot favourites to beat Sheffield Wednesday. However, Tottenham Hotspur face a tough task against Championship leaders Nottingham Forest. The midweek slate draws to a close with two all-Premier League clashes, as West Bromwich Albion host Hull City, and Crystal Palace welcome Newcastle United to Selhurst Park.
