In contrast, Lithuania have nothing left to play for: though they’re only three points adrift of third place heading into the final matchday, it’s a mathematical impossibility for them to make it to Euro 2016. Their wait for a debut major tournament goes on. That probably plays into England’s hands, as it could well mean the hosts aren’t quite as focused as they would be if still in contention.

There will be wholesale changes to the England lineup for this match, with regulars Joe Hart, Gary Cahill, James Milner, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney having all been allowed to leave the camp.
