It’s been a long road for Manchester United this season, but even if their performance level has been decided uneven, they’re still finding success. They’re second in the Premier League, and sitting pretty atop their Champions League group — though with two matches to go, they haven’t quite secured advancement just yet.
Manchester United vs. PSV Eindhoven 2015 live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch Champions League online
Manchester United can secure a place in the Champions League knockout rounds with a win.
That’s exactly what they can do today, though. A win against visiting PSV Eindhoven would put them at 10 points and lock them into a spot in the knockout rounds. They won’t have won the group just yet — that’s going to go down to the wire in this group — but just securing a spot in the knockout rounds would be a huge step forward for Manchester after their struggles of the past couple of years.
Of course, PSV are still very much in the hunt for a knockout round place themselves. The Dutch side beat Manchester United in the Netherlands back in September in an impressive performance, and will be eager to see if they can repeat the feat at Old Trafford. Can they? Maybe, maybe not. Manchester are playing much better now than they were at the time — in a real way, that loss helped shock Manchester into their recently stronger form — but Phillip Cocu’s side are always up for a challenge, and will fight hard to meet it.
Key player — Memphis Depay (Manchester United)
The former PSV star was not not exactly at his best against his old club in the first meeting between these two teams, but he'll have to be much better this time around. With both Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial questionable and others struggling periodically for form, Depay needs to use his knowledge of his one-time teammates and his raw skill to help open up PSV's defense and create chances for himself and whoever else lines up in Manchester's attack.
Key matchup — Bastian Schweinsteiger (Manchester United) vs. Andres Guardado (PSV)
Guardado has been a key and vital playmaker for PSV this season, driving out of midfield to provide excellent support for their attack. His skill and work rate have been a major benefit to their attack since joining from Valencia, and shutting him down will be a top priority for Manchester. Enter Schweinsteiger, who may not have the energy he once did, but still has all the skill and guile he needs to keep Guardado at bay.
