The New York Red Bulls have never won MLS Cup, and their hopes of capturing the title for the first time in their history took a massive hit in the first leg of the Eastern Conference finals. They failed to get an away goal as the Columbus Crew won 2-0, and now they’ll need to put together their best performance of the season at home to advance.

The New York Red Bulls are in a massive hole.

Columbus scored just 10 seconds into that game and were a bit lucky to hold onto their lead during a frantic first half. But they settled into the game as it went on, and Kei Kamara’s late second goal was a huge blow to the Red Bulls. Now, a goal by the Crew on Sunday will mean that the Red Bulls need to score four times to overturn their away goals advantage.
Key player -- Bradley Wright-Phillips
The Red Bulls need goals, and Wright-Phillips is the guy they depend on to score them. His finishing wasn’t great in the first leg and needs to be vastly improved in the second.
Key matchup -- Kei Kamara vs. the Red Bulls CBs
As the Red Bulls push for goals, there’s probably going to be some space in behind their defense. It’ll be up to Kamara to make the right runs in behind and be the key component in an away goal, which could effectively end the series.
