Portland Timbers attacker breaks goalkeeper’s ankles to seal MLS Cup Final trip

Poor Jesse Gonzalez.

Jaime Valdez-USA TODAY Sports

Jesse Gonzalez is 20 years old. He's had an incredible season for FC Dallas. He's the youngest goalkeeper to ever start in the MLS playoffs. And Lucas Melano of the Portland Timbers cares about none of that, because he has ankles to break and trophies to win.

That stoppage time goal made it impossible for Dallas to mount a comeback in the Western Conference final and sent the Timbers to the MLS Cup Final, where they’ll play at the home stadium of the Eastern Conference winner.

Gonzalez is going to have a good enough career that this moment should be forgotten, but for at least a year he’s going to have to live with this highlight getting played over and over.
