Borussia Dortmund will look to record their fourth straight Bundesliga victory when they take on Schalke 04 on Sunday, and maintain at least some pressure on Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich. Dortmund are currently up in second place in the table, though early season stutters saw them fall five points adrift of the Bavarian league leaders. If we're to have anything resembling a title race in Germany's top flight this season, it's vital they don't lose further ground.

However, Schalke certainly won’t make life easy for their hosts. They have long harbored ambitions of establishing themselves as the best of Germany’s rest, and find themselves only six points and a couple of places adrift of BVB in the table. They’ve not been in great form of late, and are winless in five in all competitions, but Dortmund could pay a heavy price for any complacency.

Key player: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund)

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has slowly established himself as Borussia Dortmund's most dangerous attacking option, and his performances over the last couple of seasons have drawn transfer interest from some of the best clubs on the planet. The former AC Milan striker is lightning quick and has a fine goal-scoring touch, and he's the man Schalke will be most eager to keep quiet.

Recent history

Recent matches between these sides have been wildly unpredictable. They’ve each won two of their last five meetings, with Borussia Dortmund emerging victorious by a rather comfortable 3-0 scoreline when they most recently clashed at Signal Iduna Park back in February. The form book may strongly point to a Dortmund win; the history book suggests it could be rather closer.

Borussia Dortmund injuries and suspensions

Out: Erik Durm (knee); Nuri Şahin (unspecified). In doubt: None.

Schalke 04 injuries and suspensions

Out: Benedikt Höwedes (hand); Matija Nastasić (achilles); Atsuto Uchida (patella tendon); Marco Höger (knee); Johannes Geis (suspended). In doubt: None.

Dortmund will be without young left-back Durm and midfield playmaker Şahin, though they should otherwise have a full-strength team available.

Schalke have rather more names on the injury list, chief among them being center-backs Höwedes and Nastasić. Midfield anchorman Geis is suspended.
