After a year-long qualification process that finished over the last two months, we finally know who all is going to be in next summer’s European Championships. The 24 team tournament starts next June in France, but on Saturday we get to find out who’s going to be playing who early in the tournament thanks to everyone’s favorite show: the group stage draw.
UEFA Euro 2016 draw: Time, TV schedule and how to watch the group draw
We’re still six months away from the 2016 European Championships starting, but we’re about to find out who will be in the six groups.

The draw will take place in Paris and will be overseen by the likes of Ruud Gullit, Bixente Lizarazu, Vicente Del Bosque, and David Trezeguet, among others. It’s a high-powered group of famous names in the sport, which fits the high-profile nature of the tournament -- the Euros are second only to the World Cup itself in terms of international acclaim and draw.
The 24 teams will be drawn into six groups of four teams, one from each of the draw pots. As hosts, France are given the first seeding spot, while the rest of the teams are ordered based on their UEFA coefficient rating, which is determined based on performance over the last several years. This is actually the first time there have been 24 teams in the tournament, having been expanded from 16 teams after the last tournament in 2012.
The defending title holders are Spain --who also won Euro 2008 -- but this year the field seems to be wide open. Defending World Cup champions Germany are a big favorite, as are Belgium, who currently top the worldwide FIFA rankings. Hosts France are seen as something of a dark horse, and in a tournament often fond of surprises we should be in store for quite a few more of them this time around.
We’ll get a better feel for how this tournament could shake out once the groups are drawn, but for now, here are the four pots the groups will be drawn from.
When: Saturday, Dec. 12, 12 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. local
Where: Paris, France
TV: ESPN2 (U.S.), BBC2 (U.K.), TSN4 (Canada).
Online: The draw will be streaming live on UEFA.com, and you can catch it on Watch ESPN in the United States.
