Roma reach agreement to sign Víctor Ibarbo from Cagliari

The Roman club have an option to convert an initial loan deal into a permanent one.

AS Roma have announced that an agreement has been reached with Cagliari for the signing of their Colombian strike star Víctor Ibarbo.

The attacker will join on loan for an initial fee of €2.5 million, though the giallorossi have the option of converting the deal into a permanent one at the end of the season for a pretty hefty €12.5m. He becomes Roma’s second attacking reinforcement of the window, following their acquisition of Seydou Doumbia.

It is a slightly odd signing, both because of the wealth of options they now have available in attack, and because Ibarbo actually hasn’t really come on as we’d all expected after he moved to Serie A with Cagliari a few seasons ago. He’s now 24-years-old, and scored a combined total of 15 goals over the last three-and-a-half seasons in Italy. Sure, he’s been used out wide regularly, but whichever way you look at it, they’re not particularly good figures.

He could well find it hard to break into a team which boasts Gervinho, Adem Ljajić, Alessandro Florenzi and Juan Iturbe as wide options.
