It’s official -- Aston Villa have brought in Tim Sherwood as their new manager, just days after the loss at Hull lead to the club sacking Paul Lambert. Sherwood’s new contract is set to run through the end of the 2017-18 Premier League season.

Sherwood, 46, was appointed coach at Tottenham Hotspur in 2008, during the reign of Harry Redknapp. But after Spurs parted ways with Andre Villas-Boas in December 2013, Sherwood assumed the role of first team coach. He lasted just a few months, though, with Daniel Levy showing him the door at the close of the 2013-14 season.
Villa, currently sitting in the relegation zone for the first time all season, have to feel things can’t get any worse. They recently went nearly 11 hours without scoring, and have a scant 12 goals in the league -- 10 fewer than last-placed Leicester. Having struggled against relegation for the last five seasons, they’re rather desperate now. But while most neutral supporters will welcome the return of Sherwood’s antics, it’ll be a tough test for the young manager, keeping this side up.
