Borussia Dortmund players plead with fans after loss as relegation looms

Could Borussia Dortmund really be relegated? This club was in the Champions League final two years ago. They won the Bundesliga three years ago. They're in the Champions League knockout stages this year.

No, they can’t be relegated. They can’t. And yet, they might.

BVB were facing the prospect of relegation after a horrific first half of the season, but the thinking was that they would re-group over the winter break and surge up the table in the second half. And yet in their first match after the break, they lost to Augsburg at home, and that was after finishing the match up a man.

All of a sudden, the winter break wasn't going to fix BVB anymore. Their fans were frightened. They were angry. And Roman Weidenfeller and Mats Hummels had to go beg them to calm down.

This is what it has come to at Borussia Dortmund. Nobody knows what’s happening. Nobody knows how to fix it. Nobody knows where they will go from here.

And without any idea where the club will go, that means relegation is a real possibility. They might actually go down. And that realization is terrifying.
