The last 15 years have seen John Terry be a regular fixture in the Chelsea lineup, and after today, we're guaranteed at least one more year. Chelsea announced that the 34-year-old defender has signed a new contract to stay at Stamford Bridge until the end of the next season.
John Terry signs new Chelsea contract to stay until 2016
Chelsea’s longtime captain and defender signed a one year extension that will keep him at the club through next season.

The announcement comes just weeks after manager Jose Mourinho promised fans that Terry, who has been Chelsea's captain since 2004, would return next season. His contract was set to expire at the end of this season, and the one-year deal is in line with Chelsea's recent policy of only giving single season contracts to players over the age of 30.
This new contract gives Terry a chance to reach 700 club appearances for Chelsea, as he currently sits on 661. He’s won three league titles in his time in London, as well as five FA Cups and one win each of the Champions League and Europa League. Of course, he’d like to add to that collection, telling the club’s official website that he wants to “continue to bring success” to Chelsea, and that he’s “so proud” of playing for the club.
As for Mourinho, the reasoning behind the contract is simple. “This new contract is not to say ‘thank you very much’, it is because John continues to perform,” the Portuguese tactician told the media. “He is a top defender. I am happy that he completely deserves this new contract after a season where he has already played 40 matches.”
Details on the contract’s terms are unknown for now, but it’s safe to assume that Terry will continue to be well-compensated for his services.
