On Wednesday, Bayer Leverkusen lost to Bayern Munich on penalties in the DFB-Pokal quarterfinals. Some fans were pretty unhappy about the result, and instead of walking down the tunnel, Bayer defender Emir Spahić decided to confront them. This ended poorly. He fought with the stadium stewards, eventually headbutting one of them.

The Bayer defender had a lengthy fight with stewards after a loss to Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal.

Unsurprisingly, these actions had consequences. Bayer confirmed Spahic’s release on Sunday.
Bayer 04 wird den bis 2016 laufenden Vertrag mit Abwehrspieler Emir Spahic in gegenseitigem Einvernehmen mit sofortiger Wirkung auflösen.
— Bayer 04 Leverkusen (@bayer04fussball) April 12, 2015 That says the club and Spahic have parted ways by mutual agreement. Presumably, the only reason it took until Sunday to release Spahic is that the club had to figure out how much money they needed to pay him to go away.
Spahic, an experienced international and World Cup veteran with Bosnia and Herzegovina, was in his second season with Bayer. He's been first choice for most of his time with the club and has been a starter for big clubs for the better part of nine years now. But at 34 years old, with this on his resume, he might struggle to find another job.
