The latest domino has fallen in today’s wave of FIFA arrests and corruption allegations:
FIFA investigation: Jack Warner faces arrest in Trinidad, extradition to United States
Ex-FIFA vice president Jack Warner has had an arrest warrant issued for him in his home country in relation to today’s corruption scandal.
Breaking: Trinidad attorney general issues provisional arrest warrant for Jack Warner + he will face extradition proceedings to USA
— Martyn Ziegler (@martynziegler) May 27, 2015 Warner formerly held the offices of FIFA vice president and CONCACAF president, but resigned from those offices in 2011 after facing corruption and bribery charges from FIFA’s ethics committee. Today, he was one of the officials indicted and arrested in Zürich, and is at the center of the U.S. Department of Justice’s investigation into FIFA. He didn’t seem terribly afraid of the charges earlier, but knowing that he’s not safe at home in Trinidad and Tobago has to change things somewhat.
Now Warner faces extradition to the United States in relation to the massive corruption investigation that the DOJ has put together. With that, and his own two sons turning against him and taking plea deals two years ago to help the investigation along, Warner’s got to be sweating with the way things are stacking up against him.
Update: Warner has surrendered to the FRAUD SQUAD.
BREAKING: Senior police source confirms that Jack Warner has surrendered to Fraud Squad officers, in the company of his lawyers.
