Two traditional giants of South American football meet in the second round of Copa América group games on Tuesday, with Argentina going up against neighbours Uruguay. Neither of these sides got off to particularly impressive starts, but it’s Uruguay that have the advantage -- they saw off tournament minnows Jamaica 1-0, while Argentina threw away a 2-0 lead against Paraguay to draw 2-2.

Heading into this match in La Serena, it’s certainly Argentina that are the favourites. Despite the disappointment of their last match, Tata Martino’s side still have what is probably the strongest squad in the entire tournament, and if Lionel Messi shows up, he could win this game on his own. In contrast, Uruguay are still without their suspended star Luis Suárez, meaning they could struggle to break Argentina down.

Then again, if there’s one thing the opening few games of this tournament have told us, it’s to expect the unexpected. Uruguay also managed to come away with a 3-2 victory the last time these sides faced off a couple of years ago, so you’d be unwise to write them off completely.
