Friday’s clash between Argentina and Colombia is, on paper, the highest quality of all four Copa América quarterfinals. However, if we’re going to have a competitive match, we’re going to have to hope that Los Cafeteros improve on the rather disappointing form they’ve shown in Chile so far.

Seemingly struggling to cram a broken Radamel Falcao into the starting lineup, José Pekerman only guided his side into the knockout stages by virtue of being the second-best third-place finisher. For a team as good as Colombia, that’s far from impressive. He’ll surely have to shake his team up heading into this match against perhaps the best team in the entire tournament.

Argentina haven’t been perfect so far either, throwing away a two-goal lead in half an hour against Paraguay to draw 2-2; though they responded with one-goal wins over both Uruguay and Jamaica to progress as group winners. It’ll be interesting to see if they can raise their game against a Colombia side that will cause their defense the biggest problems it has faced all tournament.
