Eight teams remain in the Women’s World Cup, and most of the favorites are still around. Brazil got upset in the last round, but the other five top seeds have made it through to this stage, including the United States and Canada.
Women’s World Cup 2015 schedule: Match times, TV, streaming for the quarterfinals
Eight teams will be cut down to four in the women’s World Cup this weekend.

Because of the way the tournament was organized, the No. 1 and No. 3 teams in the world have to play each other in the quarterfinals. Germany and France face off in the first quarterfinal on Friday afternoon, and the winner of that game will be a big favorite to get past the USA and win the whole tournament. France have never won a major tournament, while Germany are two-time World Cup winners and the most recent European champions.
The USWNT play Friday’s late game, taking on a defensively solid China team in a rematch of the 1999 World Cup final. So far, China have lost to Canada, but put in very good performances against the Netherlands, New Zealand and Cameroon.
Australia take on Japan on Saturday, and if their Asian Cup matches are any indication, it should be an excellent game. In that tournament, the Matildas got a draw in the group stage before losing a one-goal game in the knockout round.
Hosts Canada play in the last quarterfinal, and they'll probably have a loud sellout crowd behind them when they play England, who recently won a Women's World Cup knockout stage game for the first time in their history.
