Mexico's U-20 team take on Serbia in what will be a nervy final group game at the World Cup on Friday. Heading into the round, all four teams in Group D sit on three points, and El Tri need a result to give them a chance of making the knockout stages. Serbia lost their opening game to Uruguay, only to bounce back with a win over Mali; Mexico, meanwhile, were beaten by Mali only to record a dramatic last-gasp victory against Uruguay.

Mexico’s U-20s need a result against Serbia if they’re to make it into the World Cup knockout stages.

A win for either of these sides would guarantee them a place in the knockout round, though a draw would only definitely be good enough for Serbia due to their superior goal difference. El Tri, in contrast, head into the final group matchday bottom of the table on tiebreakers. However, a draw could potentially be good enough for them providing Mali’s game against Uruguay produces a winner, as that could allow Mexico into the knockout stages as the best third-placed team.
Mexico will by buoyed by the returns of striker Diego Gama and defender Oscar Bernal, who were suspended after picking up red cards on the opening matchday. They’ll also be expecting another big performance from their attacking star Hirving Lozano, though will have to be wary of the threat posed by Serbia winger Andrija Živković, who is the youngest player in the nation’s history to ever receive a senior cap.
