The United States women’s national team’s week of World Cup celebrations continues Friday with a ticker-tape parade down the Canyon of Heroes in New York City. Festivities will get underway at 11 a.m. ET when the parade leaves Battery Park, and finish at 12:15 p.m. at City Hall. Once there, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio will host a special ceremony to honor the team.

New York City is throwing the U.S. women’s national team a well-deserved parade for its World Cup victory. Here’s how to tune in.

The national team won its third World Cup in the 24-year history of the women’s event. It was the first title since 1999. That 16-year drought meant that, until now, Abby Wambach -- one of the greatest women’s soccer players of all time -- had yet to hoist the World Cup trophy. After last Sunday’s 5-2 victory over Japan, Wambach’s national team career is likely over, punctuated by her crowning achievement.
The parade will be the first ever held in New York City honoring a women’s team. The last female athlete honored by a New York City parade was Carol Heiss Jenkins for her Olympic gold medal in figure skating in 1960. The celebration reflects not just the team’s achievement, but perhaps the growth in popularity of women’s soccer, as well. More than 25 million people reportedly watched the World Cup final, making it the most-watched United States soccer event ever and wildly more popular than an average night during the NBA or Stanley Cup finals.
The parade will be broadcast on ESPN and Fox Sports 1, as well as local New York City stations. WatchESPN will host live streaming along with local New York City news station websites, including ABC 7 and NBC 4.
