Jurgen Klinsmann says “there are other players ahead of him” because he doesn’t know what’s really valuable to a soccer team: having a guy makes videos of himself with his shirt off singing “No Air”. Oh, and creative passing. That would help the USMNT a lot too. They also don’t have any of that.

Winning the Gold Cup to avoid a playoff for a Confederations Cup spot was a major goal for the United States this summer, and they came up short. They fell to Jamaica in the semifinals of the Gold Cup, and now have to play a third place game that they probably don’t care too much about.
Their opponents, Panama, will feel like they should be in the final. They led Mexico going into stoppage time when El Tri were given a very soft penalty. Panama’s protests led to a long delay, complete with a fight and fans throwing garbage onto the field.

International soccer is the ultimate in small samples. In many ways, the volume of results is even smaller than it is for college football. Few games truly matter, and for the United States, most of those that do are against smaller Caribbean or Central American countries.
Meanwhile, friendlies can be interpreted with whatever spin you choose. Overreact to bad losses and ignore good wins? Go for it. Direct opposite? Have at it. You’re somewhat correct either way.
