MLS All-Stars vs. Tottenham Hotspur 2015: Time, TV schedule and news for the MLS All-Star Game

Last year, the MLS All-Stars pulled off a surprising upset of Bayern Munich. Can they repeat the feat against Tottenham?

Susan Ragan-USA TODAY Sports

The MLS All-Star Game isn’t like most All-Star games. Most sports leagues in America do a conference versus conference format, or domestic players versus international players, or even a kind of draft format where two designated stars pick their teammates from the pool of players selected to the All-Star Game. In MLS, though, there’s just one team of stars from the United States’ top soccer league.

So who do they play? Instead of facing off against in-league rivals, MLS brings in some of the best teams from around the world Manchester United and Chelsea have each come twice, and even Roma and Celtic have been part of the match. Heck, the MLS All-Stars managed to beat Bayern Munich last year.

This year, it's English club Tottenham Hotspur poised to go toe-to-toe with MLS' best. While Spurs may not be quite on the same level as Chelsea or Bayern, they are a very good side poised to make a push up the table in perhaps the world's best league. Can MLS overcome that quality? There's only one way to find out.

MLS All-Stars to Watch

The Gold Cup Six: Clint Dempsey, Gyasi Zardes, Graham Zusi, Omar Gonzalez, DaMarcus Beasley, and Nick Rimando all played varying roles for the United States in their disappointing Gold Cup run, with the USMNT falling out of the semifinal of a tournament they were expected to win. All but Zardes were in the fan-selected portion of the team, and all will likely play a fairly large role in the match -- depending, of course, on how much energy they have left right now.

Benny Feilhaber: Snubbed from the Gold Cup roster, Feilhaber has been on a tear for Sporting Kansas City of late, with three goals and three assists since the beginning of June. He'll be out to prove to his would-have-been international teammates and everyone in attendance that he belonged in that USMNT squad and could have made a difference.

Sebastian Giovinco, David Villa, and Kaka: The three big international stars still on this roster -- after commissioner picks Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard pulled out -- will all be eager to show Tottenham that these supposedly old dogs bent on playing through retirement still have plenty of tricks left to dish out. All three have been wildly successful for their new MLS teams this season, and are unquestionably three of the best players in the league this season.

Giovinco, a former Italian international has been incredible for Toronto FC ever since he came over from Juventus before the season, netting 13 goals and earning 10 assists along the way. Villa's only a goal behind him with 12, and has given New York City FC four assists to boot, helping keep NYCFC in the playoff hunt despite a poor early run of results. Kaka has Orlando City neck-and-neck with New York in that race, with nine goals and three assists of his own, almost physically pulling Orlando along with him at times.

Tottenham Hotspur Players to Watch

DeAndre Yedlin: Spurs have had several USMNT stars over the years, including Brad Friedel and Clint Dempsey. Now they've got Yedlin, perhaps the brightest young talent in the US squad right now. He moved to Tottenham in January and while he hasn't played much yet, you'll get to see him in action with his new team today.

Christian Eriksen: The Danish international is one of the brightest and most exciting young playmakers in Europe right now, and he looks set to take yet another step forward this season. He's thrilling to watch work with the ball at his feet, so whenever it comes his way, make sure you don't blink or you risk missing something great.

Harry Kane: The young English striker exploded into prominence last season, scoring 21 league goals in his first Premier League season. Just 22 years old, Kane looks like he could be the next truly great striking talent to come out of England, with a tall and athletic frame coupled with eye-popping technical skills. He's the kind of player who demands attention every time he steps on the pitch, and this match will be no exception.
