Germany vs. England live stream: How to watch the 2015 Women’s World Cup online

The Women’s World Cup third place playoff takes place on Saturday.

Michael Chow-USA TODAY Sports

The third place playoff at all major tournaments is really nothing but a glorified friendly, with little but pride at stake for two sides still reeling from the disappointment of failing to make it to the final. However, the amount of pride on offer varies from team to team, and heading into the third place match at the Women's World Cup, Germany have more to salvage than England.

That's because they headed into this tournament as the No. 1 ranked team in the world, and many tipped them to win the thing altogether. They'll now be looking to show that their defeat to the United States in the semifinals was merely misfortune.

England, in contrast, seem to have less to lose; they impressed everyone with their gutsy run to such a late stage for the first time ever, and providing the painful own goal from Lucy Bassett that handed Japan victory in the last round doesn't hurt too much, they may well be able to bounce back. They've shown they can perform well under pressure; now it'll be intriguing to see how they do in the relative freedom of this encounter.

Match Date/Time: Saturday, 4 p.m. ET, 2 p.m. local
