DFB-Pokal first round: Schedule, fixtures and results

The German domestic season gets underway with the 1st round of the DFB-Pokal this weekend.

The German domestic season returns in full this weekend, with 64 teams in action in the DFB-Pokal. Playing the first round of the Cup before the Bundesliga begins is a way of breaking in the top teams gently: the way the competition is seeded guarantees that all sides from Germany’s highest division are drawn against amateur opponents. That also ensures the prospect of amusing giant-killings, but they don’t come around too often.

Chief among those eager to avoid an embarrassing slip-up in the first round is defending champions Wolfsburg, who kick off on Saturday against the excellently named Stuttgarter Kickers. Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich have the easiest draw of the giants as they take on fifth tier side Nöttingen on Sunday, after Borussia Dortmund have gone head-to-head with third-tier opponents Chemnitzer FC. A full run-down of all the games can be found below, and you can find TV and live stream listings at Live Soccer TV.
