Juventus have a creepy new zebra mascot

WHY.

There's been a new trend in football the last few years of teams introducing mascots. It makes sense in its own way -- they're generally easy to market, can be a draw for kids and create an opportunity to entertain fans during halftime without bringing anyone special in. The trend hasn't really caught on in Italy yet, though Juventus are trying to start it with, uh, this.

That’s “J,” the new zebra/rat/child’s-cartoon-character-gone-wrong mascot Juventus are using. It’s ... well, it’s creepy. Let’s not beat around the bush. Kids might like it because kids like lots of things, but more than a few adults looked at it and cringed, because there’s something about it that’s just unsettling.

Maybe this one needs to bake in the oven a little bit more before you roll it out full time. Something a little less nightmare-inducing, perhaps.
