Netherlands vs. Iceland live stream: How to watch Euro 2016 qualifying online

The Netherlands will have to be vigilant against shock group leaders Iceland on Thursday.

The Netherlands’ Euro 2016 qualifying campaign has been far from plain sailing, and they find themselves down in the third place playoff slot as we head into the final few matches. Their poor campaign resulted in the resignation of coach Guus Hiddink back in June, and Thursday’s encounter with Iceland will be his successor Danny Blind’s first game in charge of any side since a short stint with Ajax a decade ago.

While the Netherlands have underperformed, Iceland have overperformed remarkably, having won five of their six matches to date. They sit two points clear of the Czech Republic at the top of the group, while the Netherlands are three points further back. Manager Lars Lagerbäck has done a remarkable job to get the minnows this close to a first major tournament qualification, and he’ll doubtless be desperate to see it through before his retirement next summer.

When they last met

Iceland stunned the Netherlands in Reykjavík back in October, with the Oranje having no reply to a first half brace from Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurðsson. It was a historic result for the Scandinavian side, and played an important role in kick-starting the remarkable run of form that has given them such a good chance of qualifying for Euro 2016.

Key player - Arjen Robben (Netherlands)

Arjen Robben now certainly falls into the ‘veteran’ category, but the 31-year-old winger is still arguably the Netherlands’ most dangerous attacking player. He looked at the peak of his powers at last summer’s World Cup inBrazil, and is capable of dribbling past defenders at will when on such form. Iceland will certainly be hoping he’s not yet quite up to full match fitness, or they could well struggle.
