We expected an entertaining slugfest in this Champions League match between Manchester United and VfL Wolfsburg at Old Trafford, and based on the lineups that have been named for the game, that’s exactly what we’re going to get. Both teams have named a very strong starting lineup for this battle, and the outcome should be immensely fun to watch.
Manchester United and Wolfsburg go all-out with Champions League lineups
Louis Van Gaal and Dieter Hecking are pulling no punches with these lineups.
Louis Van Gaal has named pretty much the strongest team he has available to him at the moment given Manchester’s injury situation, with just one change from the team that thrashed Sunderland at the weekend, with Bastian Schweinsteiger stepping into midfield for an injured Michael Carrick. Schweinsteiger is immensely familiar with this Wolfsburg team and Dieter Hecking’s tactics from his time at Bayern Munich, so that experience could prove invaluable for this match.
For his part, Hecking has named a team with a clear attacking intent, naming four attacking midfielders who will play behind Bas Dost and try to overwhelm Manchester’s defense. Of course, that comes with the risk of Joshua Guilavogui having to do too much on his own as the lone defensive midfielder, but that’s clearly a risk Wolfsburg are willing to take if it means beating United in match that may end up looking like an Old West shootout.
