The Netherlands were World Cup semifinalists, but it’s looking increasingly possible that they won’t qualify for Euro 2016. They’re six points out of an automatic qualifying spot with three games to go, and they only hold the playoff position by one point. They travel to meet the team behind them, Turkey, on Sunday.

The Netherlands are running out of rope. They’re in serious need of a victory against Turkey.

Turkey have been slightly disappointing, as they would have expected to be in the top two spots in the event the Netherlands slipped up. But they lost at home to the Czech Republic, got waxed away to Iceland and have drawn both of their matches against Latvia.
Still, they are in control of their own destiny. If the Turks win on Sunday, they’ll make their way into the playoff spot and send the Netherlands down to fourth place.
Daryl Janmaat and Nigel de Jong are the most notable omissions from the Netherlands squad. They'll also be without Bruno Martins Indi, who is suspended, and Arjen Robben, who is injured. Turkey have gone for a younger look with this squad, leaving out Hamit Altintop, Emre Belözoğlu and Gökhan Gönül. The pair of Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Gökhan Töre have apparently worked out their differences to the point where they can be in the same squad without guns getting pulled out.
