2016 MLS Draft order: The first round picks of the SuperDraft

Here’s how the draft order looks for Thursday’s MLS SuperDraft.

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

It’s almost time for the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, the annual gathering of some of the top young talent in the U.S. to be drafted onto MLS rosters. The draft may not have quite the same importance that the drafts in the NFL or NBA do thanks to soccer’s convoluted set of player acquisition methods, but Thursday’s event in Baltimore is still one of the high points of the MLS offseason.

While these picks aren’t set in stone, there’s still plenty of trades that will happen to shake up the order, this is the current draft order. The Chicago Fire finished with the worst record in MLS last season, getting the dubious honor of holding the first overall pick, with the MLS Cup champions Portland Timbers holding the final pick of the first round. There will be four rounds overall, with the first two rounds taking place on Thursday -- the third and fourth rounds will take place on January 19th via a league conference call.

  1. Chicago Fire

  3. Philadelphia Union
  4. New York City FC
